No matter how much you love your apartment, there’s usually a few (non-negotiable) brooding features that make you cringe.
If you’re limited in your personalization options, we’ve come up with some tips to help you fix even the ugliest problems.
Eyesore #1 - Ugly Carpet or Flooring
Ugly Carpeting encompasses anything from stains and damage to just being downright hideous. This problem is a bummer because there’s not too much you can do about it, especially if you’re a renter with a very strict landlord. The easiest fix for bad carpet (and bad flooring in general) is to layer it over with an area rug. Take some time to think about different textures, colors or patterns that can compliment your floors and bring an element of style to your apartment.

Eyesore #2 - Stained or Bare Walls
Ah, the brother of bad carpeting...bad walls! Apartment walls are usually painted neutral colors like white or beige which, (1) can look mundane, (2) are more prone to visible stains and discoloration, and (3) can make your home feel unwelcoming. If you aren't able to change the color, wall decor is the way to go. You can use a single large piece to make a dramatic statement or mix frames and art pieces of different shapes or sizes. The wall decor options are endless!

Eyesore #3 - Ugly Window Units
Having a big, bulky box sticking out of your wall can seriously mess with your apartment’s feng shui. Though you can’t get rid of it completely (unless you’re willing to sacrifice comfort), you can minimize its presence. Hanging a curtain over the unit hides the disruption while also complimenting the style of your room. If curtains aren’t your thing, try one of these fixes.
